Traditionally and "Oafoch Guad": The Kaiserschmarrn has a long tradition in Tyrol and is an integral part of the kitchen there. There were many stories about his origin and name, presumably Emperor Franz-Joseph was initially not enthusiastic about the hinge on the imperial plate and asked "What should he do? "After trying it he became a fan of the dessert and the name remained. The rubbish has long been something normal for us - and on May 24th the specialty will be honored with a festival in the Tyrolean Ellmau. From 12 noon to 5 p. m. , 14 sewing variants from sweet to heart can be tried. Admission is free.

Arrival without and by car:

The Kaiserschmarrn festival is very easy to reach in the center of Ellmau and on foot from the Ellmau village/building yard bus stop. With the Wilder Kaiser Guest Card you can use the Kaiserjet & Public Bus to Ellmau free of charge. Parking at the Ellmau West car park is also free.

One of the best Kaiserschmarrn is certainly from the Ellmau landlady Bettina, who will of course also be there.

Bettina kindly told us her recipe that we do not want to withhold from you, because it is simple and fabulously good. The landlady prepares this recipe as a dessert for one person, I find it just right for two:

  • 5 heaped tablespoons of flour
  • 2 owner
  • A pinch of salt
  • A good dash of milk

Whisk together with a whisk, just as much that the ingredients are well mixed and a liquid dough was created, it should have the consistency of cream.

Heat some oil in a pan, pour in the dough and bake for 2-3 minutes. If you want, you can sprinkle a few raisins. Then turn and as soon as the second side is golden brown, fold up and tear it up with two forks.

Now put about 30 grams of butter and not too little sugar in the pan, switch the heat down and let the rubbish caramelize quickly. Complete.

Serve with apple sauce.
