background

It started with a chance acquaintance - or better: with a happy coincidence. At the ADAC 24h e-competition we, Ursula Kloé, Ju-Know, Matthias Groher and Andrea Dewes, Institute New Mobility, Stefan and Manfred from Schenna, who went to the ADAC team and reported on their first e-motion pleasure tour in South Tyrol in 2024. The winners of the e-competition received the invitation from Stefan and Manfred as an additional prize to be part of this first edition. This cooperation gave rise to the idea of presenting the E.Motion pleasure tour and Schenna as the ideal holiday destination for e-mobilists, because very well equipped with charging infrastructure, presenting at the next E4 Testival at the Hockenheimring.

The Schenna E.motion 2025

There are these rare moments when everything fits together: the light, the place, the fragrance in the air - and a quiet whir that sounds like a promise. So our journey through South Tyrol began, more precisely: through Schenna, which stretches over Merano like a balcony. While the city flickers below, you lean back up here - between roses, palm trees and shimmering wine. And this is exactly where Schenna E.motion starts.

An exit for electric cars? Yes—tradition meets future vision.
Also, a weekend for connoisseurs, pioneers, and the curious? Exactly.
And right in the middle of it all: our Ford Mustang Mach-E—elegant, sporty, and ready for three days full of fresh mountain air, winding hill curves, breathtaking summit views—and culinary delights.

Get in, let go, charge

Already at Raiffeisenplatz in Schenna, where the participants gather at the start, this touch of anticipation is in the air. A bit like class reunions - with a potpourri of Eautos. One more elegant than the other and our Mustang Mach-E fits into the group as a proud representative, streamlined, confidently, and so quietly that you almost forget that it has over 300 hp under the sheet.

The greeting? Heartfelt. There are small culinary delights, shaking hands and a first sniffing. And then: Press the start button, gently gear lever in "D" - and silently we slide off.

Schenna herself shows up as a pioneering region when it comes to sustainable mobility: almost every hotel offers charging stations, and there are also public charging points in central locations. Loading is not a question here, but a matter of course. Like the public transport: Buses run free of charge with the guest card - and often. At the stops you can see hikers, locals, guests.Even with us in the hotel: The guests' cars stopped all week.We like that.

And that brings us to the Prairerhof - our personal rest pole after every day full of curves, conversations and enjoyment. A quaint oasis of calm in the heart of the historic village, where traditional warmth combines with modern comfort.Whether romantic for two, family or consciously simple: in Schenna there is a suitable accommodation for every taste. From the charming small courtyard to holiday apartments to the upscale wellness hotel, everything is included.Hiking, wellness, come back - you would like to not only spend the night here, but also arrive.

In the family -run guest house in Prairerhof, it can not only be wonderfully spent, but also enjoy. And of course: Our Mustang was allowed to recover overnight at the Ecogy Wallbox, which is installed directly on the farm. For a fair 50 cents per kWh, it refreshes fresh energy - and we have a piece of admiration for the well thought -out concept.

Kurt Mair von Ecogy, himself a participant in Schenna E.motion, greets us with a warm handshake at the exit. A likeable maker with conviction - once with his wife, another time with the daughter. The technology is one thing. But the conversations, the people, the ideas - that is what remains.

Day 1: From Schenna to the heart of the South Tyrolean delights

After just a few curves, we know that this trip will not be a test drive. It will be an experience.

First stop: Rainguthof animal world.A mountain farm like from a picture book. Donkey, ponies, peacocks - even chinchillas that welcome us curiously. The backdrop?Breathtaking. The Texelgruppe Approach, the Dolomites shimmered as if made of powdered sugar. While we - that is the task - appreciate the weight of a highland cattle (with a rather creative result).

We continue on curvy pass roads. The Mustang is fed up in the curve, the panorama dances. We meet a driver's task on the Mendelpass - but honestly: Who wants to concentrate on centimeters when the light of the midday sun is sharply drawing the summits and bringing the colors of nature to life.

Finally, in the Dominikus winery: a moment of silence. The wine cellar is carved directly into the rock, an impressive backdrop for profound drops and conversations. The respect for the product, in front of the ground, in front of nature can be felt here - and tastes. The host's father has hit his wine cellar in the rocks for decades.Stone for stone. A glass of Lagrein in the hand, the Kalterer See in view - and time that suddenly no longer plays a role.

The route leads over dreamy side streets, through mountain villages, apple groves and up to passes with a breathtaking view. But it's not just about driving - it's all about discovering, enjoying and amazing.

Day 2: The magic of the mountains - flexible and full of discoveries

Actually, the Stilfser Joch would have been on it today - but fresh snow and avalanche danger cross the plans, our route changes. And yet the alternative trip does not feel according to Plan B, but like an invitation to discover new things. Vineyards, silent valleys, charming villages. Old farms with history - as if fell out of time.

In the morning the day starts with the best drive: sun on the face and curiosity in the stomach. Our Mustang Mach-E is already waiting-stoically, shiny, ready for a day that loves the curves and celebrates the landscape.

First dance: the Jaufenpass.

What a street!A curvy love letter to everyone who does not only see driving as a locomotion, but as a pleasure. Here, where the Alps become more impressive with every meter, where serpentines such as calligraphy run through the landscape, it shows: South Tyrol is serious about beauty.

The Jaufenpass is not a gentle slide. He is an alpine muscle game - steep slopes, rugged rock walls, wide views over the summits of the Stubai and Sarntal Alps. And right in the middle of our Mustang - no daredevil, rather a gentleman among the driving machines. Powerful, but relaxed.

After so much panorama and pulse frequency, we turn into the valley - coffee break at the Prezthof Shop & Bistro in Gasteig. Espresso and a pinch of South Tyrolean charm.

Next stages: peninjoch

A pass that is not presumed, but demands - and therefore enthusiastically. The street winds in elegant hairpin bends through the Sarntal Alps, past lush green alpine meadows and impressive peaks.

The driveway is a game of light and shadow, from tunnel passages and open panoramas. With a maximum climb of 13% and a vertical height of 2,211m, the Penser Joch is a highlight for everyone who loves the interaction of technology and nature. Our Mustang Mach-E masters the route with flying colors-quiet, powerful and sovereign.

Once at the top, we rewarded us a breathtaking view over the surrounding mountains, despite raised clouds and a little drizzle. Precisely because of the weather, a very special and special mood.

On the way back a little action: uniformity test! That sounds like rally, but is actually a mini meditation with accelerator pedal. Not faster, not slower - just drive evenly. Sounds simple, it is not. But that's exactly why it's fun. And: the Mustang?Has tact.

Lunch break at the Rabensteinerhof in the Sarntal. A place that even Google Maps seems to whisper. Picturesque meadows, a forest edge, horses on the paddock - and pigs. After eating, we briefly represent our feet - a short walk to the nearby chapel.

Then we roll on - free, electrical, light. And land where we started yesterday: at Raiffeisenplatz in Schenna.

A special highlight awaits us in the afternoon: Walter Moosmair from the Niedersteinhof - a organic farmer with a foresight and a heart for innovation. In the middle of the Passeier Valley, he and his family manage a small but versatile Bioland mountain farm. He combines traditional agriculture with modern ideas and sustainable technology.

An example of his joy of innovation is the electrification of an old meadow care machine that he has converted into an emission-free work equipment. The battery of this machine also serves as a mobile power storage - be it for light, tools or maybe even music at the apple harvest. Thanks to its own photovoltaic system, a wind turbine and a hydropower plant, the Niedersteinhof is energetically almost self -sufficient. The farm itself uses about 70% of the green electricity generated, the rest is fed into the network.

Walter Moosmair is not only a farmer, but also a host. His farm offers vacation on the farm with lovingly furnished apartments, which are mostly equipped with high -quality natural materials. Particularly noteworthy are the so -called “hay lows” products from their own mountain meadow hay, which is harvested at 2,000 meters. These range from hay pillows to hay beds to wallpapers and lampshades. With his philosophy, Walter Moosmair shows how tradition and innovation can go hand in hand. His commitment to sustainability and its courage to break new ground make it an inspiring example of future -oriented agriculture.

There is also: cheese, bacon, salami, organic apples, fresh bread. And lots of good conversations.About e-mobility, about the Alps, about meaning and future.

An afternoon that shows that technology can be connecting. And regionality is not a trend - but attitude.

Day 3: Dialect, Dolomite view and the art of pampering

We start at the Bergbahn 2000 parking lot with a uniformity test. Then the route leads us to Hafling, Vöran and Mölten to the Obermpflerhof.

On the third day we visit the Obermpflerhof. The courtyard is located in the middle of a meadow that is so green that you think of Photoshop briefly. Hofhund and cat receive us as if we have been regular guests for years. Franz, the farmer, serves bacon that melts on the tongue, fresh apple juice and shaking bread - and tells of life with his pigs, which are "so native that they grunt in the dialect". No joke.Or?No matter - we smile and feast.

Later the Majestic Seat Kematen awaits us. A look that is enough for three camera batteries.A manor house, a Stadl, a little church - part of this landscape for over 750 years. Old trees protect the courtyard, a silent pond reflects the light. The view? A poem. The dolomite chain lies as if painted on the horizon. Tables and chairs in the middle of the meadow. The Schlutzkrapfen - turned with butter, tender, "light" - taste like the South Tyrolean grandma that you never had. And with every bite you sink a bit deeper at the moment. The innkeeper Alois takes care of a warmth that is not learned but lived. Here you not only feel cared for - but really welcome.

Another slalom trip with the Mustang - yes, also backwards can be fun - and we continue through vineyards, past castles and villas until we arrive at the Destilleria Villa Laviosa. Here we shoot tennis balls out of the car in tons. Sounds strange? It was too.But funny. And in the end it smells of Grappa, and we fill our trunk with liquid memories.

Finale with photo book and wanderlust

The final evening in the scene town is another highlight. Aperitif on the terrace, infinity pool with a play of light, cabaret from Luis, and a dinner, a menu that surprises, spoils and reconciled with the farewell.

And then - when you thought it couldn't be more beautiful - there was a big surprise: the entire tour was masterfully accompanied by the highly professional photographer team Rène Official Photographer. With a trained look and sensitivity for the moment they held all the festival.

In the end, each participant was given a very personal photo book - tied to high -quality, visually stunned, compiled with heart. Your own car in the best light, the landscape as a stage, the emotions noticeably on paper. 1a Quality - Chapeau!
Images that not only show what was - but make you feel how it felt.

And the Mustang?

He was quiet, strong, relaxed. Not a noisy top dog, but a smarter Travel companion who has grown dear to us with every kilometer. Like the region itself.

E.Motion with emotion

But with all beauty: Schenna E.Motion is not a luxury theater for e-car fans. It is a real experience. From the slalom course to curvy passes to funny competitions (yes, also tennis ball shooting from the Mustang is part of it!) It is shown here how electrical driving is fun-beyond range of range or chargingapp stress.

Schenna E.Motion is more than an event. It's a promise.

One that enjoyment, technology, sustainability and joie de vivre do not have to rule out. That mobility must not be hectic, but poetic.
And that 3 days in South Tyrol can be enough to fall in love a little - into the mountains, good life, and yes: in a Mustang who does not cry out loud, but whispers quietly.

What fascinated us the most?

Not only the landscape, not just the vehicles, not just the culinary capers - but people.

People who live in a region that rests on centuries -old roots - and lets the future grow from it.
Whether organic farmer, hotelier or technology tinkerer: Everywhere we met personalities who love their craft, think again and lead strategies into the future with often very different-but consistently clever. Traditional nights, brave and sometimes experimentally. But always: with attitude, with heart and with a clear look ahead.

This trip has shown that sustainability is not a catchphrase. It is a life design. And it shows herself exactly where people dare to do something new without forgetting the old one.
